Orthodontics

An orthodontist is also a dentist but being a dentist doesn’t automatically qualify one to be an orthodontist. An orthodontist has three more years of study after graduating from dentistry.
Orthodontics primarily deals with poorly positioned teeth and jaws. We treat patients with improper alignment or position of teeth. Crooked teeth are more prone to germs because of ineffective brushing, to diseases and gum problems. The role of the orthodontist is to rectify these problems.

Apart from aiding the health of the teeth and gums, focus is also on beautifying the face by harmonizing the teeth, muscles, jaws, and jaw joints three dimensionally.
Orthodontists will keep your mouth healthier, your teeth stronger, aid aesthetics and increase self-confidence.

How do you know if you need an orthodontist?

You need Orthodontic Treatment if you show following symptoms :

  1. Unusual facial profile
  2. Thumb and finger sucking
  3. Overlapping and crowded teeth
  4. Missing teeth
  5. Spaced teeth
  6. Protrusion of upper front teeth
  7. Mouth breathing

Braces are worn by children as well as adults, to improve the attractiveness of the smile, and also because braces correct improper alignment of teeth that can lead to gum disease and early tooth loss.

Orthodontic treatment usually involves wearing an appliance (brace). This puts gentle pressure on specific teeth to move them into the right place.

At the initial appointment, we will do a very detailed dental examination and few X-rays. If you have any decayed teeth, these will need to be treated before orthodontic treatment starts.

Orthodontic treatment period is usually six months to two years, depending on the severity of the problem.

Types Of Appliances Used :

Invisible Appliance includes –

  1. Ceramic or Tooth colored braces
  2. Lingual Braces (on the inner surface of the teeth)
  3. Aligners (Invisalign)

Visible Appliance includes –

1. Metal braces

There are different kinds of appliances. Some can be removed while others are fixed. Removable braces are generally made of plastic and have wire clips and springs to move specific teeth. Generally they are used to move upper teeth. A removable appliance must be taken out to be cleaned, but it should be worn always, including mealtimes and at night.

Fixed braces are fixed. They are made of small brackets that are glued to the teeth and joined together with a wire. Fixed braces can be used on upper and lower teeth. Once the treatment is finished, the brackets and glue are cleaned off the teeth.

2.Lingual braces

Lingual braces have the same components as conventional braces, but they’re fixed to the back of your teeth, on the tongue — or lingual — side of the teeth. Because they’re behind your teeth, they’re nearly invisible.

Our orthodontists will gladly discuss with you your preferences and match them to the ideal treatment plan that’s best for your case.

Speciality Dental Studio also offers Invisalign® treatment or invisible braces and incognito hidden lingual braces.
